World of Winter - East Greenland discovery with dog sledging

In winter East Greenland turns into a white winter world where snow-covered mountains and frozen fjords set their mark on the landscape. These fascinating surroundings are the destination of this winter tour. Here we will visit the island of Ammassalik, and the town of Tasiilaq is our first destination. To get a better insight into what the arctic really feels like and the Inuit way of life we will go on a 2 day dog sledge tour to the small settlement of Tiniteqilaaq where you will get a real insight into how the locals live. We will stay in the village and have our dinner at the house of a local family. Returning from the dog sledge adventure you have a day for an optional snowshoe tour to the valley of flowers, use the time to visit the town of Tasiilaq and its museums or other activities.
The dogs are original Greenlandic dogs, a breed that evolved in East Greenland for pulling sledges. The sledge dogs are top athletes full of energy and for them pulling is a necessity. They all have their distinctive personality and a specific role in the team that pulls the sledge.

Day 1: Reykjavik-Kulusuk-Tasiilaq
After your flight from Reykjavik you will take the helicopter transfer over to the town of Tasiilaq. There you will be picked up at the heliport by our local partners and driven up to your accommodation. Evening free. Night in Tasiilaq.

Day 2: Tasiilaq- Tiniteqilaaq
Today we head out for our dog sledging adventure. Our destination is the small settlement of Tiniteqilaaq (about 125 inhabitants) overlooking the Sermilik Ice fjord where icebergs float by all year round. Our route takes us over the lake area that lies north of Tasiilaq between the mountains. The last part of our day will be the most difficult one when we make our way over the Tinit Glacier on the northernmost tip of the Ammassalik Island. However we are rewarded by a spectacular view over the settlement of Tiniteqilaaq and the Icefjord. We stay overnight in sleeping bag in one of the local houses. However the facilities are basic, drinking water is taken at the water house and showers are at the service house. Dinner is with a local family where you will get to taste the local cuisine and get an insight into the local way of life.
Dog sledging: 6-8 hours

Day 3: Tiniteqilaaq-Tasiilaq
Today we head back to Tasiilaq, over the glaciers and snowfields of Ammassalik Island. Arrival in Tasiilaq in the late afternoon. Evening free. Night in Tasiilaq.
Dog sledging: 6-8 hours

Day 4: Flower Valley or town of Tasiilaq
Today you can go on an optional snow shoe tour to the valley of flowers or use the day explore the town of Tasiilaq. Surrounded by high mountains Tasiilaq is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Greenland and with its about 2000 inhabitants it is the largest town in East Greenland. It has an interesting museum and some shops where it is possible to buy local craft, but East Greenland is known for its Tupilaqs.
Night in Tasiilaq.

Day 5: Tasiilaq- Kulusuk-Reykjavik
After saying our goodbyes we have a transfer to Kulusuk, where we get on our flight back to Reykjavik where the tour ends at the airport.
